When we consider the probability that something
may happen we are able to put a figure on it in
the form of a decimal between 0 and 1.
0 is impossible, 1 is certain and 0.5 is
even chance
For example, the probability that it will go dark
between teatime on Monday and breakfast on
Tuesday morning is certain is 1 (certain)
The chance of a man landing on Venus this week
is 0 (impossible)
The chance of a tossed coin landing heads up is
0.5 (even chance)
All probabilities have to add up to 1
For example, If the weather forecast says there is
0.7 chance of rain tomorrow there must be a 0.3
chance of it being dry (the forecaster may say there
Is a 70% chance of rain. That means that there is
30% chance of it being dry)
If there are more than 2 events that could happen
they still have to add up to 1
For example, a football team playing a match may
have a 0.6 chance of winning and a 0.3 chance of
drawing. therefore there is a 0.1 chance of them
losing
